We all have good reasons for preventing stroke

The World Stroke Organisation has officially launched the World Stroke Day Campaign for 2017. The focus of World Stroke Day on 29th October is stroke prevention.

The campaign leading up to World Stroke Day uses a selection of emotive images to highlight treasured relationships and moments and asks the question 'What's your reason for preventing stroke?'  A social media campaign leading up to World Stroke Day will feature stories from stroke survivors and families featuring their experiences and their compelling reasons for preventing stroke.

One in six of us will experience stroke in our lifetime, the disease is a leading cause of death and disability and yet 90% of strokes are associated with just 10 risks that we can all do something about.

The campaign calls on individuals, health professionals and policy makers to take appropriate action to increase awareness of stroke risks and key steps in prevention. The WSO endorsed StrokeRiskometer, which provides a free, evidence-based and widely translated tool for assessing individual lifetime risks of stroke, is being promoted as part of the campaign.

Digital and print materials including a brochure and infographics will provide information on risks and advice on reducing stroke risk, while an online video and social media banners will help our members, partners and supporters to raise awareness of the day and point people to the Campaign website.  The website itself provides a central point to access information for anyone with an interest in reducing stroke risk as well as links to local sources of stroke support.

We are calling on our members, partners, stroke survivors and families to join with us on the 29th of October and speak with 'one world voice for stroke'. Together we can deliver a world free of stroke.
