Celebrating the 20th Iberoamerican Stroke Organisation in La Paz

The World Stroke Organization were pleased to contribute to the Iberoamerican Stroke Organization's 20th Annual Congress in La Paz, Bolivia between June 7th and 9th.

On June the 7th we delivered our traditional Stroke Teaching Course, dedicated to general doctors and non-neurologists, with more that 300 participants and lecturers from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Peru and the special participation of WSO representative Prof David Spence, from Canada. Simultaneously, there were workshops on Neurosonology, Vascular Cognitive Impairment and a NIHSS training session.

On June 8th and 9th the Congress brought together lecturers from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Spain and USA for a discussion about the state of the art in stroke treatment as well as subjects of particular local interest, including Neurological Diseases and Altitude Sickness. We were honored with the presence of Prof Werner Hacke and Prof Stephen Davis, who participated in the opening ceremony and delivered interesting lectures in a specially dedicated session.

We left Bolivia with the clear sense of having contributed to the development of stroke care in the country, while being very impressed by the multiple initiatives for stroke care in both the private and in the public system, and with the huge warmth and hospitality of Dr. Juan Carlos Duran, the leader of the organizer committee and the people of Bolivia

Next year we will meet in Gramado, Brazil, between August 1st and 4th. Please, consider yourself cordially invited!
